 Probate in the State of Washington is a legal process conducted through the Court system to administer a deceased person’s estate. If a Last Will and Testament is found the Court will determine if it is valid and if so, will be asked to confirm the Executor named in the Will to administer the estate. In the event no Will is found, the Court will be asked to appoint an Administrator of the estate. In both cases the Administrator is generally referred to as the
"Personal Representative".
The probate process consists of collecting the assets of the estate such as real property, bank accounts and personal belongings of the deceased person, paying any remaining debts
like credit cards, medical expenses and mortgages, then distributing the remaining assets of the estate to the beneficiaries named in the Will or in the case of no Will, the heirs as determined by statute.
